Mayo: ‘Anything can happen’
“Anything can happen” was the message from Lewis Mayo who believes that a strong start to the season could allow Kilmarnock to gain momentum and set their sights on the top half of the table.
The defender addressed press for the first time since securing a permanent move to Ayrshire. Speaking on Friday, he commented: “It’s exciting and I’ve got a really good feeling about it. I’m glad to be here and have everything done, with a chance to look forward.
“Using last season as a reference, I played a lot of games and a lot of minutes. In the end, we got the job done. Building on that as a group, we need to start looking further up the table and really show a different mentality: we need to back ourselves more, particularly at the start of the season.
“You don’t have to look back too far to see when Kilmarnock finished third. Not looking too far ahead too early, but if we can find form and gain momentum then anything can happen.
“First off, I think I need to start chipping in with a few goals. I didn’t score any last season and the manager was certainly clear about that. I want to build on last season and really push myself as far as I can.”
