Celtic 1 Kilmarnock 0
Kilmarnock pushed Celtic all the way on Remembrance Sunday, with everyone associated to Kilmarnock Football Club impeccably observing the curtailed period of silence prior to the match.
A solitary first-half goal was enough for the hosts to claim all three points.
Straight from kick-off, Killie had a huge opportunity to score. Ieuan Owen – in for his first Scottish Premiership start – got to the byline before cutting the ball back to the middle of the box. There was Tom Lowery, who hit it first time, but Sam Johnstone denied at point-blank range, before again saving the rebounded shot.
Killie settled fine, but Celtic showed their obvious advantages with multi-million pound strikers combining to seemingly give them the lead on 13 minutes. However, VAR advised John Beaton to check the pitchside monitor for a foul on Kiltie in the middle of the park during the build-up, and it remained goalless for the time being. Scales would give Celtic the lead on 25 minutes, with Nico Mantl wrong-footed.
Killie looked to respond and threatened down the left side. Michael Schjønning-Larsen tried his luck from distance after being allowed time and space on the ball, but the goalkeeper was equal to the drilled attempt.
MJ Kamson-Kamara came off the bench and made a goal-saving tackle to deny Hogh a goal midway through the second-half with an excellent block inside the box.
Celtic were awarded a penalty on 75 minutes after VAR stood in to advise that Aaron Tshibola had handled the ball inside the area. Nygren stepped up, but Mantl saved well to deny them a second goal inside the closing period.
Killie stayed in the game and contained Celtic. This almost paid off when Erik Ring whipped in a brilliant ball, but Owen couldn’t quite get a connection on the cross to finish for an equaliser.
