Kilmarnock 2-0 Motherwell | Men’s first team

Kilmarnock secured a vital three points with a 2-0 victory against Motherwell.

Fraser Murray and Joe Wright scored the goals to send Killie into 9th place heading into next week’s final pre-split match.

Fraser Murray fired Killie ahead from close range after Bobby Wales was somehow denied by a Balcombe save on to the post.

Motherwell were dealt a further blow when Kofi Balmer was sent off for serious foul play following a VAR check.

Bruce Anderson went close with a header in the 52nd minute as he looped it towards goal, but Balcombe did well to tip it over for a corner.

From the resulting set-piece, Joe Wright headed strongly into the net as he doubled Killie’s lead.

Motherwell appeared to be reduced to 9 men when Dominic Thompson was shown a red card, but it was rescinded following a VAR check.

Bobby Wales went close after 75 minutes as he fired a low shot at goal, Balcombe got down well to save though.

Danny Armstrong tried his luck from distance a minute later – but again it was the Motherwell goalkeeper who came out on top as he saved well.
