Kilmarnock Women secured all three points on the road with an impressive 3–1 victory over Hamilton, producing a dominant performance at a tricky venue.

Killie settled into the game quickly and controlled proceedings from the opening minute, creating a number of early opportunities as they looked to make their strong start count.

The breakthrough arrived in the 10th minute. A Kelsy Crainie corner was met by Laura McLaughlin, whose initial header was well saved by the Hamilton goalkeeper. The Killie skipper reacted quickest to the rebound, tapping the ball into the back of the net to give her side a deserved 1–0 lead.

Five minutes later, Cara Gray capitalised on a Hamilton mistake and raced through towards goal. As she bore down on the goalkeeper, Gray was brought down by a Hamilton defender, with the challenge resulting in a red card and reducing the hosts to 10 players.

Killie continued to dominate and created opportunities to extend their advantage, with Cara Gray and Imogen Mooney among those going close.

Against the run of play, however, Hamilton found an equaliser in first-half stoppage time. A defensive mistake allowed the hosts to capitalise and make it 1–1 in the 46th minute, sending the sides into the break level.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Killie controlling possession, creating chances and limiting Hamilton’s opportunities at the other end. A number of excellent saves from the Hamilton goalkeeper kept the score level as Killie continued to push for a second.

In the 65th minute, Kelsy Crainie made way for Skye Stout as Killie looked to add fresh attacking impetus.

The pressure finally paid off four minutes later. A well-worked Killie move created space in the wide area before Louise Cowan sent the ball towards goal. Her delivery caused problems for the Hamilton goalkeeper and found its way into the back of the net to restore Killie’s lead in the 69th minute.

With seven minutes remaining, academy graduate Cowan made way for fellow academy graduate Skye McDonald.

McDonald made an immediate impact and played her part in an excellent third goal. After receiving the ball, she showed great composure to coolly set it back into the path of Cara Gray, who curled a superb effort off the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net to make it 3–1 to Kilmarnock.

Killie comfortably saw out the remainder of the match to secure all three points, rounding off an excellent performance against a strong Hamilton side at a difficult venue.
