Tommy reacts to Stenhousemuir cup draw

Tommy Wright is looking forward to the start of his first Scottish Cup crusade with Killie after the identity of our third round opponents was revealed.

A Mark McGuigan goal ensured we will take on Stenhousemuir as the Warriors beat League 1 outfit Peterhead at Balmoor.

Reacting to our trip to face the League 2 side on April 3, Tommy said: “It’s a great win for Stenny being in the league below Peterhead and it is never easy to go there and get a result.

“We’ll be able to watch them this Saturday and on Tuesday so we’ll get plenty of information on them but like any game we’ll approach it in a professional manner and treat the opposition with respect they deserve.

“We’ve seen what happened last night with Brora Rangers beating Hearts. You have to be prepared for cup football, you have to make sure you earn the right to go and win the game.

“We’ll go there with a positive attitude to get through to the next round.”

A Scottish Cup winner in 2014 with St Johnstone, the Killie boss knows the impact progress in the competition can have on a season.

He added: “I know from personal experience how important cups are for clubs the size of ours and we need to make sure we get through to the next round and if you get a little bit of luck in the draw then you can go and have a good run in the cup.”
