Steve Clarke: Taylor deserves award nomination

Steve Clarke has praised Greg Taylor's consistency after the defender was nominated for the Scottish Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year.

The left back has been one of the stars of the Killie side since breaking into the team under Lee Clarke in 2016.

Clarke, who has been nominated for the Manager of the Year prize, reflected on his young defender's progress.

He said: "Greg has been really, really consistent for us. He’s in there with three other great lads but even the fact you get nominated and it’s the same for me, when you look at the calibre of the other candidates then it is great to be nominated.

"It’s reflection on how well everybody has done at this football club."

Taylor has represented Scotland U21s at the Toulon Tournament in the past two summers and wore the armband during that time.

He added: "There’s no reason he can’t be chapping on the door anyway. There’s talk that Kieran Tierney might go for a post-season operation and Andy Robertson is in the Champions League final, which is fantastic but there will be space.

"There’s always the possibility of an opportunity in football because circumstances can always change."
