Rugby Park crowd rises over course of 2018/19

Together We Are Stronger and there’s little doubt that the Rugby Park crowd helped roar Killie to a place in Europe this season.

Steve Clarke’s men won 12 league matches at home for the first time in 53 years as Killie finished third for the first time since 1965/66.

Club historian John Livingston takes a look at the numbers behind the rise in attendances at Rugby Park.

The total of attendances in the 19 Premiership games played at Rugby Park was 130,999. This yielded an average of almost 6,895.

The four highest attendances were against Rangers (12,374 – 23/1/2019), Rangers (12,248 – 19/5/2019), Celtic (11,916 – 17/2/2019) and Celtic (10,988 – 23/9/2018). This shows an increase of 28,575 on the 2017-18 campaign total of attendances and an increase of 1,504 on the average attendance.

The total of home attendances for 19 home games in the 2017-18 Premiership season was 102,424, with an approximate average of 5,390.

In 2018-19, the club also had two other games with five-figure attendances, both against Rangers.

In the Scottish League 2nd Round (12,016 – 19/8/2018) and in the Scottish F.A. Cup 5th Round (11,430 – 9/2/2019), making it a total of six games involving Kilmarnock at Rugby Park with five-figure attendances.

The last time this happened was 1999-2000 season, when five SPL games and a UEFA Cup tie attracted five-figure attendances.
