Matchzone: St Mirren (A)

Kilmarnock secured Europa League football and fourth place in the cinch Premiership with a fine win in Paisley on May 11th.

The Ayrshire side travelled to fifth place St Mirren knowing that three points would seal their league position with two games to spare.

Kyle Vassell scored the decisive goal which secured the victory.

St Mirren had a great chance in the 19th minute when Caolan Boyd-Munce smashed an overhead kick at goal, but Will Dennis pulled off a sensational save in front of the Killie fans.

Marley Watkins should have made it 1-0 just before the half-hour mark, but his low shot flew wide of Zach Hemming’s post, leaving the former Killie stopper relieved.

In the 36th minute the deadlock was broken, and it was in favour of the visitors as Vassell smacked home from close range after great work from Marley Watkins to square it across.

Olutoysi Olusanya had a sensational chance to equlaise in the 63rd minute as the ball fell to him on the volley from about seven yards out, but incredibly he couldn’t find the target, much to the delight – and relief – of the visitors.

Watkins had a good opportunity as the ball fell into his path a minute later, but Hemming did well to tip it out for a corner.

From the resulting set-piece Robbie Deas jumped highest and powered a header on target, Hemming was hand again to tip it over the crossbar.

Olusanya had another good chance in the 74th minute as he latched on to a through ball, but his shot was fantastically saved by Dennis as he tipped it on to the crossbar.
