Kilmarnock picked up a huge result on the road with their first victory of the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership season at Easter Road.

George Stanger’s first half strike from the second phase of a set play was enough to separate the teams in the capital, as the home side were booed off after an excellent Super Killie Away performance.

After a slow start from both teams, as they settled into the game, the first sight at goal fell to Tyreece John-Jules from a Bailey Rice corner. The midfielder whipped in a wicked delivery, but the striker couldn’t keep his header down from around the edge of the six-yard box.

On 27 minutes, Michael Schjønning-Larsen shifted the ball onto his left foot inside the box with a turn of pace as he got away from his marker and zipped a tremendous ball across the face of goal, but John-Jules couldn’t quite stretch enough to get a clean connection to divert towards Sallinger.

Around ten minutes later, Joe Hugill did well to nip in front of Hanley to the ball, before his attempted cross appeared to come off the Scotland international’s arm and go behind for a corner. VAR checked the incident, but surprisingly waved play on, as Killie’s strong appeal for a penalty was waved away.

Not that it mattered though, as from the resultant corner, George Stanger was alert to a loose ball inside the area to find the net and open the scoring.

It was no more than the visitors deserved, after threatening in the forward areas on a few occasions during the first half.

Straight from the off in the second period, Killie continued to look dangerous, and if anything, showed a degree of dominance. Rice saw a low and hard free kick from distance well saved by Sallinger, before moments later Greg Kiltie had an effort from close-range saved by the Hibs goalie’s feet.

Killie had yet another very strong shout for a spot kick waved away by the officials when Hugill was upended in the box after Erik Ring , who impressed all evening down the right, looked to find his teammate for a tap-in.

Moments after, Hugill looked like he’d doubled Killie’s lead, as he again showed brilliant agility to beat the defender to the ball, finding the net after Kiltie had picked out a great low pass. However, after a lengthy VAR check, the goal was ruled out for an offside infringement on 56 minutes.

Hugill was denied at point-blank range by Sallinger on 75 minutes after brilliant build-up play down the right. The striker took the cross first time, but with all in the space in the world couldn’t bury the shot to double Killie’s advantage. He then fired an effort from close to the edge of the box after being played in by Ring, but again, the keeper palmed away to safety.

Kiltie again went so close to finishing the game as a contest and giving Killie a second goal, but the finish didn’t quite match the neat build up around the edge of the box.

Substitute Djenairo Daniels was shown a second yellow card after less than 20 minutes on the field, as Killie were again reduced to 10 men on the road inside stoppage tme.

The man disadvantage didn’t matter a jot in the end, as Killie picked up a deserved three points in Edinburgh.
