Match report: Kilmarnock 3-3 Dundee United

Kilmarnock suffered a late blow in their William Hill Premiership clash at home to Dundee United.

The Ayrshire side fought back from 1-0 down at half-time to lead 3-1 thanks to an inspired second half performance from substitute David Watson.

However, two late goals for Dundee United – one of which in the dying seconds – saw it ending in stalemate.

Kilmarnock piled on early pressure in the opening couple of minutes as both Kyle Vassell and Brad Lyons had chances – with both being blocked out for corners.

Marley Watkins made an impressive run in the 6th minute, going round Emmanuel Adegboyega expertly before slipping Vassell through on goal, the captain went close with his resulting shot but couldn’t quite keep it down.

United looked certain to score as Luca Stephenson sped towards the area, Kieran O’Hara pulled off a great save from close range to keep the scores level.

Killie were forced into an early change when Stuart Findlay hobbled off with an injury after 19 minutes, he was replaced by Robbie Deas.

The visitors found themselves ahead a couple of minutes later after good work from Stephenson who squared a pass to the unmarked Louis Moult who made no mistake from six yards out.

Danny Armstrong went close with a couple of headers just after the half-hour mark, but he couldn’t direct them on target.

Derek McInnes opted to make a change at the break as Jack Burroughs made way for David Watson – and it paid off instantly as he scored a stunning overhead kick to equalise.

Then just before the hour mark Watson bagged his brace as he turned in a Matty Kennedy cross to fire the hosts into the lead.

Watkins then made it three after 64 minutes when he turned it home after a Robbie Deas header crashed off the crossbar.

United then pulled one back in the 82nd minute with a goal from Craig Sibbald that was initially ruled out for a foul – but after a lengthy VAR check it was awarded and deemed no foul.

Then in the dying minutes the visitors had a golden chance to level the score nine minutes into stoppage-time.

They were awarded a penalty and Ross Graham made no mistake from the spot in front of the visiting supporters to secure a point for the Arabs.
