Derek McInnes: Watson deal a “good bit of business”

Derek McInnes has paid tribute to the influence of the club’s development pathway after handing a new contract to academy graduate David Watson.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s match against Livingston, McInnes said: “He’s impressed all of my staff and myself since day one.

“In recent weeks, he’s shown a lot of what we’ve been needing. It’s a nod to his performances and we believe David is going to have a really good career here.

“I think it’s great news for the club as supporters love to see a young one coming through, but like everyone else, young ones have got to merit that opportunity and he’s certainly done that.

It goes without saying that we’ve got to compliment his youth coaches who have played a part, particularly – in my time – the Under-18s coach Craig Clark. He’s been so well coached and he’s really grounded, which is testament to Craig, his coaches, the family and David himself.

“He’s one that we are going to really enjoy working with, and there’s work to be done, but getting him signed up is a good bit of business for the club.”
