A SIT DOWN WITH LOUISE COWAN

Following our recent sit-down with Arwen O’Brien, we turn our attention to Louise Cowan, who reflects on her journey through the Kilmarnock FC Women’s academy, her ambitions for the season ahead and life within the squad, as featured in Issue 2 of this season’s Killie Magazine.

When did your Killie journey begin?

“I started at Kilmarnock when I was just nine-years-old. I was playing for a local girls club, and my coach at the time got in touch with Killie. I came along for a session with the Under-13s and I’ve been here ever since.”

What’s your favourite moment as a Killie player so far?

“There have been so many, but I’d probably have to go for making my first team debut. It was such a special feeling having come through the academy to then playing a first team game.”

What’s been the biggest learning curve over the years and how has that changed you?

“Understanding how to deal with setbacks and not dwelling too much on a bad game or a mistake. I now see situations like that as a way of learning, which has made me more confident as a player.”

Our cup campaign is off to a great start, as well as the league. You scored in the opener against Renfrew. How pleased are you?

“You always want to get off to a good start, so to be able to do that again this year has been positive for the girls. Hopefully, it continues throughout the season.”

What are your ambitions for the 26/27 season both individually and as part of the team?

“I’d like to play as many minutes and to help the team as much as possible. We want to challenge at the top of the table, which is always our aim as a squad.”

Do you hold ambitions to become a full-time footballer?

“It’s every young footballer’s dream to play full-time, so if the opportunity arose it would be great. I’m going into my third year of studying law and criminology at university though, so that will do nicely for now!”

Your best mates in the team?

“Arwen, Kels and Burnsy – or as Jim calls us, the ‘gabaloony gang’.”

Who is the biggest joker?

“This is definitely Cara Gray… She’s always up to something!”

Who is the worst dressed?

“Shaun Noon for sure.”

Who is the teacher’s pet?

“Skye Stout takes the medal for this one.”
