Christmas cheer as Kilmarnock squad visit hospital
The Kilmarnock FC first-team squad made a heartwarming visit to the children’s wards at University Hospital Crosshouse on Monday to help spread the Christmas spirit.
Club captain Brad Lyons led a squad of teammates, spending time with many local babies, children and teenagers who will have to spend the Christmas period in hospital.
The visit was not only an opportunity for the young patients to meet their football heroes, but also a chance for the players to connect with staff and some of the biggest fans who are currently unable to attend matches while they receive treatment.
Kilmarnock FC’s club captain Brad Lyons commented: “The club’s partnership with Crosshouse Children’s Fund is vital as we’re passionate about doing as much as we can within the community.
“It can be difficult for children being in hospital, particularly over the festive season, so if we can cheer them up and share a bit of Christmas spirit with them then it’s great, we enjoy it too.”
Facilitated by the Crosshouse Children’s Fund, players took time to hand out merchandise, sign autographs, and pose for pictures; creating lasting memories for the children and their families.
Crosshouse Children’s Fund and Kilmarnock FC have worked together for several years to ensure young people in Ayrshire receive the best possible care. The club has previously supported with virtual visits during Covid-19 and with fundraising events at The BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park and the adjacent Park Hotel.
Kirsten Watson, CEO, Crosshouse Children’s Fund said: “We were delighted to welcome Kilmarnock FC back to the hospital. The players and staff brought genuine joy to families at what can be a difficult time of year. For children unable to spend Christmas at home, the squad helped create special moments and lasting memories for them within the hospital.”
