Matchzone: Ross County (H)

Kilmarnock secured yet another vital victory at Rugby Park against Ross County.

It was a crucial three points in our fight for European football, and it was our captain Kyle Vassell who stepped up when it mattered to seal the 1-0 win.

It was almost the dream start for Killie as Danny Armstrong whipped a sensational ball into Matty Kennedy in the first minute, but the winger could only smack the post from close range.

Chances were then at a premium in the opening 20 minutes with both sides cancelling each other out.

Loick Ayina had a go in the 23rd minute as he fired a diving header at goal, Will Dennis was alert though and stopped the effort.

Liam Donnelly tried his luck on the half-hour mark with a shot from distance, George Wickens palmed it to safety though.

Joe Wright had a great chance after 34 minutes when he powered a header at goal, but Wickens again did well to get behind the effort to keep it out.

Armstrong had a fantastic chance in the 50th minute as he fired a shot from inside the area, but to his dismay it was blocked out for a corner.

County’s Simon Murray almost put the visitors ahead a couple of minutes later with a fine curling effort, Will Dennis’ save was even finer though as he tipped it wide.

After 63 minutes captain Vassell fired Killie in front with a rocket strike from the edge of the box.

Donnelly had another effort from distance in the 82nd minute, but again Wickens was equal to it to deny the midfielder.
