Kilmarnock Women reach Sky Sports Cup Quarter-Finals
The cup run continues for Kilmarnock Women who progressed to the Quarter-Finals of the Sky Sports Cup after a 2-0 victory against Gartcairn at the BBSP Stadium, Rugby Park.
Kilmarnock opened the scoring after 34 minutes when Abby Robinson’s pinpoint cross was met by Kirsty O’Brien whose glancing header nestled inside the far post netting, giving Killie a one-goal advantage which they would carry into the break.
A clear path to the next round appeared midway through the second half when the home side were awarded the opportunity to double their lead from the penalty spot. Alex Middleton stepped up and calmly converted with 20 minutes remaining to ensure that Killie’s complete control of the game would earn a place in the last-8 of the competition.

The manager’s thoughts
Kilmarnock Manager, Jim Chapman, said: “We worked hard all week in training on a certain gameplan and we implemented it brilliantly today. Any plan is only as good as how it’s implemented and I thought the players were first-class.”
Speaking about potential opponents in the Quarter-Finals, he added: “I think if we get anybody here at Rugby Park then we’ll make a good game of it. We’re there, and we’re there on merit.”
