St Johnstone 0-2 Kilmarnock
Kilmarnock picked up a crucial draw on the road as we defeated St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Saturday 3rd May.
David Watson and Danny Armstrong both grabbed goals to secure the 2-0 victory in an important post-split clash.
It was an unchanged XI named by Derek McInnes, with Matty Kennedy replacing Ethan Brown on the bench being the only change to our 20-man matchday squad.
Josh McPake had a decent chance for Saints in the opening minutes as he took advantage of a slip from Danny Armstrong on the edge of the box before cutting inside and shooting from the edge of the box – it was blocked well before reaching Kieran O’Hara’s goal though.
Fraser Murray tried his luck from distance in the 6th minute – his long-range effort almost troubled Andy Fisher but he managed to control it the second time round to ensure Bobby Wales was unable to follow-up with a rebound.
David Watson fired Killie in front after 12 minutes with a fantastic strike from the edge of the box after great build-up play from the Ayrshire said.
Makenzie Kirk had a decent chance for Saints on 17 minutes as he was teed up by Uche Ikpeazu inside the area, but Kirk’s shot was blocked by the ever-present Watson.
Stuart Findlay went close just before the half-hour mark with a header from a corner, Fisher did well to hold on to it though.
Kieran O’Hara pulled off a massive save after 34 minutes after an Ikpeazu shot from close range looked goalbound until the goalkeeper stopped it at point-blank range.
Defender Daniel Balodis had a go from distance in the 42nd minute but he couldn’t quite steer it on target.
Ikpeazu went close just after the break but he couldn’t direct his header on target.
Five minutes later Killie were awarded a penalty after a VAR check decided Rory McKenzie was fouled.
Danny Armstrong made no mistake from the spot as he calmly coverted from the spot to make it 2-0.
