McInnes: ‘Open training session was valuable for everyone’

Derek McInnes took time during this week’s press conference to highlight the positive impact of yesterday’s open training session, stating that the enthusiasm of youngsters helped to heighten the intensity of his side’s pre-match preparation.

Speaking on Thursday, the manager said: “I think there’s always so much value in days like today. It’s obviously the school holidays and parents are looking for things to do with their kids. We saw so many kids showing a real interest, shouting throughout the session and enjoying seeing the players training.

“Any time you can have that interaction with the supporters outwith a matchday is important: the players enjoyed it and there was a bit more on the training.

“To see so many turn up on such a miserable morning was great. The other thing that has to be mentioned is how many young Kilmarnock fans were there, all with Killie kits on, it’s really encouraging and refreshing. Good on everybody that turned up.

“I think this is always the type of thing the club has tried to encourage and hopefully there will be many more to come.”
