Match report: Motherwell (A)

Kilmarnock exited the Premier Sports Cup following a defeat to Motherwell.

Derek McInnes made nine changes to the side that defeated Tromso on Thursday night due to a hectic schedule, Joe Wright and Stuart Findlay the only survivors from that starting XI.

Danny Armstrong was left out of the squad completely due to his partner being set to give birth.

Marley Watkins had an early chance as he headed towards goal after some nice build-up play from Gary Mackay-Steven and Bruce Anderson, but Watkins’ shot fizzed narrowly wide of the post.

It was another chance for Watkins in the 27th minute as he almost headed home from a Fraser Murray cross, but he couldn’t quite get a good enough connection on it.

Ewan Wilson had a great chance just after half-time as he cut inside from the wing, Kieran O’Hara saved well though.

Killie were dealt a blow after 50 minutes when Stuart Findlay was issued a second yellow card and subsequently sent off.

Wilson had another good opportunity in the 78th minute as he once again cut inside – this time it was Robbie Deas who blocked the shot that was heading goalwards.

Lennon Miller fired a low shot towards goal after 83 minutes, O’Hara was alert once again to hold on to the effort.

Heading into extra-time it was the Lanarkshire side who grabbed the winner as Moses Ebiye headed home.
