Match Report: Dunfermline 2-2 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock’s return to league action ended in disappointment, as Dunfermline snatched a late point at East End Park.

Attacking duo Oli Shaw and Callum Hendry were on target once again in Fife, but strikes from Dom Thomas and Aaron Comrie undid Killie’s work over the 90 minutes.

Tommy Wright rang the changes once again following our SPFL Trust Trophy victory over Queen’s Park: Jason Naismith, Zach Hemming, Blair Alston, Brandon Haunstrup, Dylan McGowan and Fraser Murray were all restored to the starting eleven.

It was a tight and tense begin to proceedings, both teams struggling to gain a real foothold as a fierce midfield battle raged.

Indeed, the best chance of the first half came when Kevin O’Hara forced a fine stretching save out of Zach Hemming with a curled effort from range.

There was precious little else of quality in the first half, but things were soon to ramp up a notch.

Kilmarnock started to pose a real threat, and when Chris Burke’s low shot was magnificently blocked on the line by Mark Connolly. Killie felt something was coming.

We opened the scoring after 68 minutes thanks to Callum Hendry effort from point-blank range following a stunning overhead-kick by Jason Naismith. Three in three for the big attacker.

It was former Killie wideman Dom Thomas who got Dunfermline back in it in bizarre circumstances. After 74 minutes, his in-swinging delivery from the right completely bypassed the Killie defence and went into Hemming’s net.

Heads didn’t go down however, as just a minute later Oli Shaw blasted a low finish past Owain Fon Williams at the near-post, after a remarkable sweeping move up the park.

The match though was to end in heartbreaking fashion for Killie, the Pars grabbing an equaliser in the fifth minute of added time.

A ball from the left couldn’t quite find Todorov, but dropped nicely for Aaron Comrie to drill the ball into the left corner and rescue a point for the Pars.

Killie XI: Hemming, Naismith, McGowan, E.Murray, Haunstrup, McGinn, Alston, McKenzie, F. Murray, Shaw, Hendry
