Kilmarnock Women 1-8 Hibernian Women

Hibernian took an early lead, opening the scoring inside the first minute. Killie looked to respond quickly, with Kelsy Crainie having an opportunity in the third minute, while the hosts continued to defend well and look for opportunities going forward.

Hibs extended their lead in the 18th minute after finding a way past Kerrigan. Killie continued to push forward, with a good cross from Watt creating another opportunity in the 24th minute. However, the visitors quickly went back on the attack and added a third just a minute later.

Killie were forced into an early substitution on the half-hour mark, with Lisa Kirwan replacing Skye Stout. Hibs then added a fourth in the 31st minute.

The hosts continued to look for a route back into the contest. A good ball from Gray found Crainie and resulted in a Killie corner, before Laura McLaughlin came close with an effort which was firmly saved by the Hibs goalkeeper in the 48th minute.

Hibernian added a fifth in the 52nd minute, but Killie continued to create chances, with Erin O’Brien coming close with a superb header from a corner.

Killie made a double substitution on the hour mark, with Skye McDonald and Dani Connelly replacing Cara Gray and Louise Cowan.

Hibs added further goals in the 65th and 69th minutes before Killie were awarded a penalty in the 72nd minute after Erin O’Brien was brought down by the goalkeeper.

Skye McDonald stepped up and got Killie on the scoresheet in the 74th minute, calmly slotting the penalty into the bottom-left corner.

Killie made their final two substitutions of the afternoon in the 78th minute, with Ailsa Croll and Lori Craig replacing Kelsy Crainie and Imogen Mooney. Hibernian added their eighth and final goal a minute later to complete the scoring.

The result brings Killie’s Sky Sports Cup campaign to an end, but there were still positives to take from the afternoon. Ten players in today’s squad have either graduated through the Killie Academy or are still part of the Under-17s group, gaining valuable experience at first-team level.
