Kilmarnock 3 Dundee 1

Kilmarnock have secured their status as a Scottish Premiership side for the 2026/27 season.

Tonight’s 3-1 win against Dundee means that Neil McCann’s Blue & White Army will play their part in another exciting top-flight campaign.

A superb finish by Tom Lowery set us on the way to a crucial three points, before a late quickfire brace by Joe Hugill sealed the deal.

The hosts got proceedings underway at BBSP Stadium Rugby Park, easing into the opening exchanges with a measured tempo and plenty of early joy down the left flank. Dominic Thompson read the game superbly, stepping in to intercept and driving forward, though his pass inside had just a shade too much on it for Hugill.

Dundee, operating with a back three that quickly folded into a five when Killie broke, were content to sit in and absorb pressure. Kilmarnock, meanwhile, kept faith with the crisp passing game that has served them so well in recent weeks, with Aaron Tshibola once again dictating the rhythm from midfield.

Killie switched play to the right, where Greg Killie delivered a sumptuous ball into the area but this was dealt with by Dundee, and just too high for Hugill. Dundee responded with a move of their own down the right, but the onrushing forward bundled Dom Thompson over with far too much enthusiasm, and the foul went Killie’s way.

Thompson then sparked another attack, feeding Findlay Curtis, who danced past three defenders before squaring for Lowery. His effort was clean enough but straight at O’Hara. Michael Schjønning-Larsen followed up moments later with a strike that sailed well over, but the pressure was mounting.

Bruce Anderson wriggled through the Dundee line and appeared to have his shirt tugged – no foul given – before Lowery’s follow‑up shot was deflected wide. From the resulting free‑kick, Thompson delivered a teasing ball inches above Hugill’s head.

Killie were firmly on the front foot now. More tidy work on the right saw Lowery slip a cross onto Hugill’s forehead, but his header nestled safely in the Dundee keeper’s gloves. Intricate play down the left followed, Robbie Deas threading a clever pass into Curtis, who slid the ball home – only for the flag to go up. A tight one, by the look of it.

Dundee briefly threatened down the left, but a perfectly timed challenge from Tshibola halted the move and drew a foul. Killie earned a corner soon after through more sharp work on the right, but Thompson’s delivery drifted too long. The second ball was nodded back into danger, yet Dundee managed to clear.

Tracking back, Deas clipped Wright and went into the book – another yellow for the home side. But Killie responded with more quality down the right, Schjønning-Larsen whipping in a delightful ball that caused panic in the Dundee box. Anderson pounced, forcing a strong parry from the goalkeeper for another corner.

The resultant set piece produced a scramble that somehow stayed out, and Dundee broke quickly to win a corner of their own at the opposite end – though it ultimately came to nothing.

A first half full of intent from Kilmarnock, who will feel they should have been ahead.

Dundee got the second half underway, with neither side making any changes at the interval. The visitors were first to threaten, breaking quickly and slipping the ball into their left channel but Max Stryjek pulled off a strong save to keep the score level. Killie responded with a corner, the delivery was worked to the edge of the area where Schjønning-Larsen struck through a crowd with the rebound falling to Thompson whose effort deflected narrowly wide.

Another corner followed but the whistle went for offside when the ball came in. Good movement down the right saw Schjønning-Larsen drift inside and feed Tshibola who teed up Thompson but his shot flew over the bar.

Moments later, a Dundee defender appeared to handle in the box but nothing was given. Killie continued to play some intricate football around the Dundee area forcing the visitors deeper and deeper yet it was Dundee who found space behind the Killie defence. The cross was met by the onrushing forward but Stryjek produced yet another excellent save.

Marley Watkins replaced Anderson as Killie looked to raise the tempo. Tshibola won possession superbly in midfield and surged forward when he looked certain to score but a last ditched Dundee clearance denied him.

A moment of brilliance from Lowery produced the first goal of the night when he smashed a stunning strike into the top left-hand corner of Dundee’s goal. It was his first goal for the club and what a time to get it!

Killie came close once more when Thompson carried the ball out and slipped in Curtis whose cross was met by Kiltie but he lifted narrowly over the bar.

Out of nowhere Dundee struck back. A fine ball was worked wide and kept in play. It was then cut back and Reilly hit it crisply as the ball found its way beyond Stryjek. All level and all to play for with a little over 10 minutes left to play.

Dundee tried to play out from the left corner but Curtis pounced only to be fouled once more. Out of nowhere, the ball dropped to Tshibola only for a Dundee defender’s boot to catch him in the box. A penalty was awarded and up stepped Hugill to place his shot to the left-hand corner and into the net as the hosts re-took the lead.

Watkins made way for Lewis Mayo to shore up the defence in the closing moments of the game. Kiltie was also replaced by Rory McKenzie as Killie looked it see the game out.

Rory had other thoughts in his mind as his toe poke minutes later was then deflected into the path of goal hero Hugill, who headed the ball home to make it 3-1 Killie. The stadium erupted and there was a clear sense of relief from the fans.

A superb result for Killie! Full-time the lights went up and Kilmarnock secured premiership football for next season. We are staying up!
