Kennedy: ‘2012 Success Provides Motivation’
Matty Kennedy has stated that he is desperate to taste cup success as a Kilmarnock player having experienced the League Cup win as a fan in 2012.
The winger missed out on Kenny Shiels’ matchday squad for the final more than a decade ago, shortly after breaking into the first-team set up as a teenager.
Recalling his memories of the cup run, Kennedy said: “I was involved in the build up towards the cup game, in and out of the team. I wasn’t sure if I would be playing or on the bench. Kenny Shiels pulled me before he named the team and told me I wasn’t going to be involved.
“As a young boy I was gutted, but it was a good experience for me. I was in the stand, and on the bus after we won it. It makes me hungry to be involved more: I’d like to put it right and be involved personally with winning a trophy at Kilmarnock.
“I’ve still got the strip in the house and I remember the game perfectly; the cross the goal and everything about it. I was young so I had never experienced anything like that before – it was brilliant.
