Joe Mason 1940-2019
Everyone at Kilmarnock Football Club was saddened to hear of the passing of former striker Joe Mason earlier this week.
Born in the town in 1940, Joe earned a move to Rugby Park from Lugar Bothwell Thistle in November 1960.
His record as a centre-forward was excellent, scoring 27 goals in 56 appearances for the club with his final appearance coming against Morton in February 1966.
A member of the club’s league-winning squad, he scored twice in just four appearances as Killie became champions of Scotland in 1964/65.
He moved to Morton in a transfer of £8,000 plus Craig Watson and he enjoyed a good spell at Cappielow, leading to a move to Rangers.
A well-known figure in the town, our thoughts are with Joe’s family and friends at this time.
