Hibernian 3 Kilmarnock 0
Kilmarnock’s winless run on the road continued this afternoon as Hibernian ran out 3-0 winners on matchday 32 of the William Hill Scottish Premiership.
The Ayrshire side haven’t tasted victory in Leith since Kris Boyd struck in the first half on the final day of the 2013/14 season to guide the team to top-flight safety. That record now span 14 games after a wet, windy and rather dull affair Easter Road.
Neil McCann named one change to his team which comfortably dispatched of Livingston last time out. Marley Watkins dropped to the bench, with captain Brad Lyons restored to the starting XI after missing the victory over Hearts before playing his part as a substitute against Livi.
The visitors got off to the worst possible start as, straight from kick-off, Hibs scored. Passlack burst in-field after receiving the ball wide on the right. He was allowed too much time to pick out Elding, who made no mistake after beating the offside trap to fire beyond Roos.
Killie’s fortunes went from bad to worse after only 12 minutes when Obita burst through on the left, finding Passlack with his cross for a tap-in, which compounded a terrible start in the capital. It could’ve been three just 10 minutes later had Aaron Tshibola not been in the right place to intervene McGrath’s cross.
On 26 minutes, Findlay Curtis thought he’d pulled Killie back into the match with a composed first-time finish after Lyons fired the ball across the face of goal. However, a lengthy VAR check deemed the skipper to be in an offside position, and the strike was ruled out in what was an encouraging moment.
Killie fashioned another decent opportunity before the interval after patient build-up play through central areas of the pitch. It ended with a Greg Kiltie effort from the edge of the box, but Sallinger saved.
There were no changes at the break, with the manager evidently pleased with his team growing into the game.
It was Killie who unsurprisingly saw most of the ball as they pushed hard to find a way back level. Joe Hugill saw an effort from the edge of the box sail high over the bar, while Kiltie forced Sallinger into another decent stop on 64 minutes after energetic pressing saw the visitors win the ball back in Hibs’ final third.
The visitors huffed and puffed but couldn’t quite do enough to get on the scoresheet as the three points stayed with the Edinburgh side after their strong start sealed the deal. They added some gloss to the scoreline as Suto netted his side’s third of the day with the last kick of the game on a counter-attack.
