Edinburgh City 1-0 Kilmarnock B

Kilmarnock B battled hard on the road against Edinburgh City – but it proved a step too far playing with 10 men for almost the entire match with the hosts running out 1-0 winners.

A youthful side took to the field in the capital, with Eddie Beach, Dominic Thompson and Jack Thomson making up our quota of three overage players.

It was a disappointing start for Killie as goalkeeper Beach was shown a red card after just five minutes as a free-kick just outside the area was awarded to the hosts for handball.

They went close with the free-kick, but thankfully for substitute goalkeeper Dylan Brown his first task was to watch it fly narrowly over and collect it for a goal kick.

Euan Bowie had a great chance to fire Killie ahead with a shot from around 10 yards in the 36th minute, but it was well blocked on the line by the hosts’ defence.

The capital side fired themselves in front after 56 minutes when a looping Lewis McArthur header left Brown helpless in the goal.

Jack Duncan looked sure to fire Edinburgh City two ahead with a low shot, but Brown pulled off a great save to keep it 1-0.

Innes Lawson was next to have a chance for the hosts after 65 minutes as he cut inside before a powerful shot, thankfully for Killie it whizzed wide.

It was a golden opportunity for the visitors to level after 76 minutes but Cooper Eaglesham’s close range header was well saved and his rebounded effort was blocked on the line.

Craig Watson’s free-kick from 19 yards troubled Mark Weir ever so slightly in the 87th minute, but the stopper saved well.

Noah Simpson almost rescued a point with a gilt-edged chance in stoppage-time as he looked to fire home at the back post but he saw his shot go out for a corner.

Substitute goalkeeper Brown was close to being an unlikely hero as he jumped high at the attacking corner, but it wasn’t to be.
