East Kilbride 5 Kilmarnock B 3
Kilmarnock B were defeated 5-3 by League One side East Kilbride on Tuesday, August 11 at K-Park on matchday one of the KDM Trophy.
Ieuan Owen scored a hat-trick for Killie in what was a positive experience for numerous members of Kris Doolan’s Under-19s squad, as well as first team players in need of additional minutes to help build match sharpness.
The young Welsh striker helped fire Doolan’s men into the lead twice during the first-half, before being pegged back at the interval.
Dylan Brown – who is also on loan at Kilwinning Rangers – would save an early second-half penalty from Kilby’s McGuffie, but the hosts would eventually take the lead.
Owen would complete his hat-trick in the last 10 minutes of the game in what was a terrific individual performance, with all of the first team boys applying themselves correctly to complement our promising young players who gained important experience against a good level of opponent to help continue their development.
Starting XI: Brown, Peacock, McMurray, Bowie, Spence, Fraser, Foster, Thomson, Mathurin, Tiffoney, Owen.
Subs: Morrison, Simpson, Margiotta, Feeney, Sweeney, Bickerton, Leddy, Frew, Orr.
