Dundee 3 Kilmarnock 1

Kilmarnock suffered an agonising late defeat in the City of Discovery at the hands of Dundee.

Both teams felt the way tentatively in the game, but it was Killie who fashioned the first chance, playing right between the lines with Tom Lowery fizzing the ball into Tyreece John-Jules’ feet on the edge of the box. The striker, playing in a deeper No.10 role picked out Greg Kiltie brilliantly with a first-time pass around the corner into space for a cross. He played it across the face of goal, but Joe Hugill on the stretch couldn’t quite get on the end of it.

Nico Mantl – in for his debut – had to be alert to the danger with Bevan on a jinking run down the right on 29 minutes, as he saved the winger’s effort at the near post. Just moments later, Dundee hit the post after a Fink header was initially saved.

Shortly after, Bevan would find the net as the hosts broke at pace after winning the ball back in the middle of the park through Hamilton. He slipped in the attacker on the right, who skipped past Robbie Deas before finding the bottom corner for 1-0.

Killie started brightly after the break with Michael Schjønning-Larsen showing some steel to put in a crunching tackle, which resulted in John-Jules being slipped in on the left. The attacker got a shot away, but the ball was wide of the target.

Moments later, Goodman was tested properly for the first time as Hugill unleashed a powerful hit inside the area. The keeper stuck out a strong hand to deny the forward. He later stopped Hugill from scoring from the edge of the box with a wonderful save right before the eventual equaliser on 75 minutes.

George Stanger was fouled inside the area as Kiltie floated in a corner. The referee pointed to the spot, and Hugill made no mistake from 12 yards to level the scoreline.

Five minutes later, the hosts thought they had re-taken the lead through Hay at the back stick after a delivery on the right, however, a VAR check found a handball, and the score remained in stalemate. They would re-take the lead just moments after, with Hay heading home again. Dundee added a third with the final kick of the game as Hay rounded Mantl to tap home.
