ASN Festival at Rugby Park

Rugby Park was the scene of teamwork, celebration and immense pride for hundreds of young people and adults this month.

More than 140 young people and adults with additional support needs from across Ayrshire took part in a day of free, inclusive football organised by The Killie Community.

From 10am to 4pm, the stadium hosted participants from across East, North and South Ayrshire — aged from 5 to adults — in a festival of accessible football, where ‘fun’ came first and everyone had a chance to shine on the pitch.

Dozens of activities were designed to be friendly for players with a range of physical or learning disabilities, from mild to severe, which has allowed parents and carers the opportunity to connect with other families navigating similar challenges.

Adding to the occasion was a surprise visit from Captain Conker, Kilmarnock FC’s mascot, bringing smiles and laughs.

The event was delivered in partnership with local organisations, with Ayrshire Sportsability playing a key role by helping promote the day and providing volunteers to support across the pitch.

Among the team of enthusiastic volunteers was Liam Winter:

“To see so many kids with additional needs playing on the same pitch that Killie plays on — it’s just brilliant,” said Liam. “These are memories that last a lifetime, and I’m proud to be a small part of it.”
