Armstrong: Half-Time Home Truths Inspired Celtic Win

Danny Armstrong has revealed that a few half-time “home truths” from the manager inspired one of the best 45-minute performances he has witnessed as a player.

Reflecting on the victory against Celtic, the winger said: “The first 15/20 minutes weren’t as good as I know we can be, but I thought in the second half we were – to a man – absolutely brilliant. The boys were bang at it and we got a deserved result in the end.

“That’s one of my favourite (performances) I’ve played in yet. We had a conversation at half-time, told a few home truths, and the boys went out and done exactly what we knew we had to do. We got the three points, which was massive.

“I think that’s a bit of a difference this season. We can go 1-0 down and turn it around to beat the top team in Scotland. The boys needed to start believing that we can do things like that and push ourselves up the league. There are no boys in there that don’t believe we can achieve something this season.

“Last season it was about staying in the league. We took a wee while to achieve that, but once we got it done it was about wanting more for this club and ourselves. We had a good pre-season and a good cup campaign. We beat Celtic and then struggled to get a few results after that, but we’ve found our feet again.

“People talk about the away form; we got another great result against Aberdeen, which is one of the toughest places you can go, and then followed it up with a win against Celtic.

“It’s all about Saturday now and we’ll keep plugging away at these games coming up before Christmas. The boys are all looking forward to it and there are some good challenging games coming up.”
