A sit down with Arwen O’Brien

As part of our commitment to improving coverage of Kilmarnock FC Women, we had a chat with Arwen O’Brien for Issue 1 of this season’s Killie Magazine.

How pleased are you to have signed a new three-year deal? 

“I’m really happy to have signed again. Kilmarnock really feels like home as it’s one big family. I’m looking forward to developing here under Jim.”

How are you feeling ahead of the new league season, with some cup games first?  

“Really excited to get started again. The cup games are a good starting point to get to know new teammates and bond as a team ahead of the league kicking off later in the month. Hopefully, it’ll stand us in good stead to hit the ground running.” 

Pre-season – love or hate it and why?  

“Pre season is a fresh start for the team and a great test for us all physically, but also a great environment as all the girls support and push each other. The competitive element makes it enjoyable as well. However, all of the running involved is not for the weak!” 

What are your personal goals for the season ahead?  

“I’d personally like to maintain consistency throughout the season, and take on more responsibility on the pitch while continuing to be a role model for the academy girls who have aspirations of breaking into the first team.” 

⁠How are the team looking to build from last season? 

“We’d like to push on and stay as an attacking and aggressive side, and be challenging at the top of the table.” 

⁠Do you have ambitions to become a full-time footballer and how do you see yourself developing to reach that stage if so?  

“I’d love to become a full-time footballer but I’m focusing on one game at a time. It’s great to see the club moving in the right direction towards full time football.” 

Your best mate in the team? 

“Lucie, Cowan and Kels – or as Jim would like to say the Gabaloony Gang!” 

Who is the biggest joker? 

“Jim Chapman.” 

Who is the worst dressed? 

“Shaun Noon, the assistant manager.” 

Who is the teacher’s pet? 

“Skye Stout.”
