Kilmarnock Women made it two wins from two in the 2026/27 Sky Sports Cup league phase with a deserved 2-1 victory over Dundee United at Townhead, following last week’s opening win away to Boroughmuir and taking another three valuable points.
The home side started brightly and found the breakthrough in the 16th minute through Skye Stout. The forward showed excellent technique to curl a stunning effort into the top corner from just outside the penalty area, giving Killie a deserved early advantage.
Stout continued to threaten throughout the first half, striking the crossbar on 19 minutes before rattling it again from a free-kick eight minutes later as Kilmarnock looked to extend their lead. Cara Gray thought she had doubled the advantage just after the half-hour mark, but her finish was ruled out for offside.
Despite only holding a one-goal lead, Killie were good value for their advantage and went into the break in control.
Kilmarnock came out strongly after the restart, with Kelsy Crainie going close to adding a second almost immediately after the interval.
A triple substitution on 54 minutes saw Imogen Mooney, Erin O’Brien and Lauryn Reside introduced in place of Fiona Cullie, Cara Gray and Eva McKean, injecting fresh energy into the side.
The changes paid off just ten minutes later as Imogen Mooney calmly slotted home Kilmarnock’s second goal on 64 minutes, putting the hosts firmly in control at 2-0.
Further changes followed on 68 minutes with Rachel Osborne and Lisa Kirwan replacing Skye Stout and Kelsy Crainie, allowing Killie to maintain their intensity for the final stages.
Kirwan nearly made an instant impact, forcing a smart save from the Dundee United goalkeeper on 77 minutes before firing narrowly over the crossbar two minutes later as Kilmarnock searched for a third goal.
Dundee United ensured there would be a tense finish when they pulled a goal back in the 86th minute to make it 2-1, but Kilmarnock defended resolutely in the closing stages to see out an important victory.
It was another positive afternoon for Killie, who backed up their opening-day success at Boroughmuir with a second consecutive win to make it six points from six in the Sky Sports Cup league phase.
