Kilmarnock 2-1 Dundee United
Kilmarnock secured safe passage into the Premier Sports Cup with a 2-1 victory against Dundee United.
Killie took the lead after just six minutes when a stunning through ball from Ben Brannan reached the feet of Marcus Dackers who stayed composed to burst through on goal and finish well.
Ivan Dolcek had a great chance to make it 1-1 in the 25th minute as he fired a powerful shot from the edge of the box, thankfully for Max Stryjek he saw it fizz past the post.
But unfortunately for Killie a minute later it was in fact level as Owen Stirton’s effort trickled past Stryjek and into the net to make it 1-1.
Dolcek stepped up to take a free-kick on the edge of the box just before the half-hour mark, although it was a promising position his effort flew over the crossbar.
Ben Brannan tried his luck with a curling effort on the hour mark, it went close but it was narrowly above the crossbar as he looked to score his fifth goal of the season.
Killie’s lead was restored after 70 minutes when Brad Lyons smashed home a low effort – adding to an already fantastic week for the captain after the birth of his first child.
Bruce Anderson had a fantastic chance to double Killie’s lead in the 88th minute as he worked his way through on goal, but his powerful shot was well saved.
