AZ Alkmaar 2-0 Kilmarnock
Kilmarnock tested themselves against Dutch Eredivise opposition in AZ Alkmaar during their pre-season trip to Holland.
The hosts welcomed Killie to VV Dirkshorn’s ground, and it was a worthwhile exercise during Stuart Kettlewell’s first match in charge with 22 players getting minutes in the legs.
Bruce Anderson went close in the opening minute as he latched on to a shot from Scott Tiffoney, but it wasn’t quite steered on target.
Tiffoney went close himself in the 15th minute, he fired a shot away from 20 yards but he saw it fly narrowly over the crossbar.
The Dutch hosts took the lead just before the half-hour mark when a vicious ball was fizzed across the face of the goal before being fired home by Mexx Meerdink.
Alexandre Penetra then made it two to Alkmaar as he jumped highest to head in off the crossbar after 32 minutes.
The Dutch side looked to make it three in the 80th minute, but goalkeeper Corey Armour pulled off a top save to tip it out for a corner.
Sem Van Duijn was through on goal in the 90th minute and looked set to score, but a last-ditch challenge from Robbie Deas ensured the score remained 2-0.
