Match report: St Mirren (A)

Kilmarnock fought back to secure a draw in Paisley despite being reduced to 10 men in the first half.

It was a well-deserved point in the end as Marley Watkins scored and also played a huge part in the second goal.

Derek McInnes made two changes from the team who drew with Hibernian, with Bruce Anderson and Lewis Mayo making way for Watkins and Jack Burroughs.

Saints took an early lead when Jaden Brown’s cross was headed into the far corner by Toyosi Olusanya in the 7th minute.

Corrie Ndaba almost scored a spectacular volley from 20 yards a couple minutes later, but Ellery Balcombe tipped it over for a corner.

From the resulting corner Killie equalised as a nice low corner from Matty Kennedy was worked to Danny Armstrong who fired at goal, it deflected off Marley Watkins and into the net right in front of the away supporters.

It looked set to be going into the half-time break all-square, but after a VAR check in the 40th minute Joe Wright was penalised for handball and a spot-kick was given.

Mark O’Hara made no mistake in converting as he send Kieran O’Hara the wrong way to send Saints into the break ahead.

Danny Armstrong tried his luck with a free-kick from distance, but it failed to trouble Balcombe who saw it sail over.

However the flashpoints for the half weren’t quite over as VAR intervened once again, this time to send off Joe Wright for violent conduct as Shaun Rooney fell to the ground at a corner.

Ndaba had another chance from distance and it was tipped wide from Balcombe.

Then again from that corner Killie again levelled, as Watkins headed on to Ayunga who was credited for an own goal.

Alex Gogic went close in the 80th minute as his header from a corner smacked off the post, thankfully then out for a goal-kick.

Saints thought they’d won it in stoppage-time through James Scott, but it was ruled out by VAR for a foul on David Watson.
