Match Report: Queen’s Park 4-2 Kilmarnock (Reserves)


It was defeat for Kilmarnock in the SPFL Reserve League clash away to Queen’s Park.

A youthful Killie side turned out, with Oliver Bainbridge getting minutes under his belt too.

Max Fiddes gave the hosts a lead after 10 minutes as he fired low into the corner from the edge of the box.

The lead didn’t last for long however as Kian Leslie finished well after nice work from Oli Bainbridge down the left wing.

Lennon Connolly then restored the Spiders’ lead as he fired in from close range after 21 minutes.

Samuel Duruh was sent off after half-hour when he kicked out at a Queen’s Park player.

Connolly had another good chance in the 39th minute as he latched on to a slack pass, he worked his way towards goal but Aidan Glavin happily scooped up the effort which was straight at him.

Cole Burke had a good opportunity a minute later as Leslie laid off a short free-kick to him, but the young winger couldn’t keep his effort down.

It was almost a third for Queen’s Park when EIGHT smashed the post from near the penalty spot just before half-time.

Killie got themselves level after 56 minutes as Ruari Ellis headed home from close range to finish off a scramble in the box.

Five minutes later Tyrece McDonnell was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty, he then smashed home the spot-kick to fire Queen’s Park back in front.

Ben Brannan tried his luck after 78 minutes as he fired a low shot at goal, it took a deflection but was well saved by Samuel Kane in the end.

A minute later Leslie had a tricky run followed by a shot from the edge of the box, Kane was again equal to that effort.

Brannan had another great chance six minutes from time with a powerful effort from distance, but Kane saved again.

Connolly grabbed his brace in the dying minutes as he fired in low to seal a 4-2 victory.
