Killie superfan rewarded by club legend after scooping ‘Quality in Care’ award!

Kilmarnock superfan Lochlan Murdoch has been named as the ‘People’s Award Winner’ at this year’s Quality in Care (QIC) Diabetes Awards!

Recognised by the NHS, patients and industry as an individual that has displayed a selfless commitment to improving the quality of life for people living with diabetes, Lochlan has been rewarded for his strive to raise awareness of the condition through education and sporting participation.

In 2020, Lochlan set up his very own charity, ‘Lochlan’s Legacy’, to raise awareness of what it’s like for young people living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). He has since embarked on a tour of all senior football clubs in Scotland – with a Killie badge proudly displayed on his chest the whole way – as he continues to provide education about T1D to ensure that those in similar situations are able to manage their condition and enjoy sport like any other youngster.

Lochlan received a standing ovation as he collected the prize while wearing his Killie tie at the prestigious national awards ceremony in Reading on Thursday, 13 October. His treasured tie was quickly swapped for a Killie shirt when he was surprised by former Kilmarnock Player, Dylan Kerr, who gifted him tickets to watch the Brentford v Brighton match the following evening.

It was then time for a change into his Killie-inspired OffxSpringz hoodie as he headed off to the Reading v West Brom game at The Madejski Stadium on Saturday, where he was welcomed onto the pitch at half-time – again arranged by former Killie and Royals star Dylan Kerr.

Recently, Lochlan also engaged the Ayrshire community to aid those dealing with the conflict in Ukraine through contribution of medication and other essential items, with a donation point set up outside the Moffat Stand earlier this year.
