KCST play host at inaugural Walking Football tournament

in #KillieStories October 3, 2018

Our Kilmarnock Community Sports Trust staff hosted the inaugural KCST Walking Football Tournament at Rugby Park earlier this week.

Comprising of eight teams, two groups of four were created to bring communities together and give participants the chance to play at Killie’s famous ground.

Group A saw our very own team paired with Ayrshire rivals Ayr United as well as North Lanarkshire Leisure and Glasgow Sport A while Motherwell Community Team, Stewarton CSH, Inverkip CSH and Glasgow Sport B made up Group B. Our match with Ayr ended in a 1-1 draw.

After some fine football both local sides lost out in Group A with North Lanarkshire and Glasgow Sport A joining Motherwell CT and Glasgow Sport B in the last four.

North Lanarkshire got the better of Motherwell while the Glasgow pair saw their clash go to a dramatic penalty shootout with Glasgow Sport A winning 5-4 on spot kicks. A hard-fought final saw North Lanarkshire run out 3-1 winners over Glasgow.

All our KCST staff would like to thank everyone for their participation, fair play and respect during the competition and hope everyone had a great afternoon.

We would like to thank Charles Sim of Co-op Galston and East Ayrshire Fairtrade for the kind donation of teas and coffees as well as the prize for the winning team on the day.
