Killie legend prepares to take on Kilimanjaro challenge

in #KillieStories June 2, 2018

He reached the highest points during his playing career with Killie and now Ray Montgomerie is ready to take on his toughest challenge yet this summer.

The club legend is aiming to scale the highest point in Africa as he starts his bid to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next week (June 6).

What was planned as a family holiday has now evolved into a charity challenge for Monty, his wife Alison and his son Matthew.

Having set their fundraising total, any money raised will be split with The Kris Boyd Charity and IMC (Inspire, Motivate, Celebrate), which aims to set up a new gym in Saltcoats.

Originally organised to mark Matthew graduating from university with Distinction in Chemical Engineering has turned into the journey of a lifetime as they aim to climb the 4,900 metres (16,100ft) in Tanzania.

While the Kilimanjaro climb will prove a test of physical and mental endurance, the family have been preparing by Munro bagging every Sunday for the past few months.

And they can take inspiration from Raymond’s brother Jim, who recently completed the 2018 Everest Marathon earlier this month.

Before he heads off, Monty received a kind £150 donation from the KFCSA, presented by Iain Sherry and Jim Thomson.

You can help support Monty’s adventure by donating to his Crowdfunding page.
